“It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”
If you have read any of my posts, I have mentioned several times that I am an OCD, Type A person. When I do something, I want to do it right and will work my buns off trying to make it successful. I launched my blog last month and have been tirelessly working everyday to increase my traffic and get my name out there. Here are my tips for starting your blog the right way!
Before I launched my blog I made sure to have a couple of posts already published in hopes that people wouldn’t see the one post and never come back. I had four posts varying in content in order to reach more people. Make sure you have a couple of different options for readers to choose from. You want to keep them coming back!
I had never really used Twitter before I launched my blog and I had deactivated my Facebook a couple of weeks before in order to be more present with my family (See my post on being too efficient HERE). Once I launched my blog I QUICKLY realized how important social media is to traffic! I created a Twitter account and reactivated my Facebook. Once I created a Facebook page and invited my friends to like it, I was getting over 4x the views I had gotten the previous days! I still need to build up my audience and there are several FREE tools to help! (There will be a future post on these free tools).
StumbleUpon is a way to discover and like web pages, photos, and videos based on your personalized interests. You can add your links to this website and people “stumble upon” them. The concept is that you can’t always find what you need through search engines so you can personalize your experience and discover websites you might never come across. People can discover your blog when they “stumble upon” it. I have had some referral traffic from this website so a couple of times a day I will “stumble” some of my posts in order to get my posts in front of more people.
This is a great tool to see exactly what your readers think about your website. You can find out what they like or don’t like and make changes accordingly. You can have three free reviews each month. You submit your website and usually within a couple of hours you will have results. I talk about User Testing in my post about extra income (you can check it out HERE) and this is a shorter version of that. Someone will actually review your website and you will be sent a video of their screen and their commentary on your website. It really is a great way to see what other people think of your site and if something needs to be changed. I have made a couple of changes based on the results I have gotten. I make sure to use all three tests each month!
There are bigger websites out there that get millions of views. If you can get one of your posts featured on one of these websites, then you can get more exposure. I have been featured on Ezine Articles and Elite Daily. I have had hundreds of views on those websites that have brought more traffic to my actual blog. This is a great way to get exposure!
Blog Link Ups
Blog Link Up Parties are a MUST!!!! There are tons out there that are going on every day! Check out my Linky Party page for ones that I post on. I also Co-Host a Link Up party every Thursday night called Blogger Spotlight! Last week I got really busy and didn’t link up to anything and my daily page views were cut in HALF!!!! I’m working on creating a schedule so I can keep track of when link ups open. You want to be towards the top of the list because some link ups have hundreds of links and if you are towards the bottom you may not get seen and it may not be worth it.
Those are my tips for hitting the ground running when you first launch your blog or website! Let me know if they work for you!
